These are so much better than the Gerber covers. They are not plastic, the elastic is soft and doesn't fall apart, and they come in a wider size range. I never had much luck with the velco style of diaper covers; the pull-on style worked much better for me. These also work great over cloth training pants during potty training. This cover over a well-fitted cotton prefold (I pinned mine) is inexpensive, easy to use, and provides bullet-proof protection. I ordered the medium, and they are quite puffy. Seems like he could have possibly fit into the smaller ones, but since the aren't stiff or bulky, I will just get more use out of them. They should fit for quite a while even though the packaging says up to 25 lbs. I like that the lycra-like band around the legs and waist is soft and has just the right amount of stretch. I also am happy with the nylon material as it is not crinkly or stiff. I use the Gerber training underwear underneath them and have had no issues with leaks.
